Baseball Update:
The fans got feisty during Minnesota’s 10-6 win over the White Sox. Twins manager Ron Gardenhire was thrown out in the seventh igniting a raucous crowd to begin raining hats and other paraphernalia onto the Metrodome’s turf and chasing the White Sox into their dugout. Play had to be stopped for several minutes, but it didn’t matter when Jason Kubel hit a three run homer to cap off the crazy inning.
The Indians decided they were not going to give up another easy win to the Tigers, a day after blowing an 8-1 lead. Grady Sizemore belted a three run homer and Fausto Carmona out pitched Justin Verlander as the Tribe beat the Tigers, 9-4. Detroit placed reliever Todd Jones on the DL with inflammation in his right shoulder.
The Cubs finished off their four game road sweep of the Brewers with a decisive 11-4 win. The victory gives Chicago a comforatble five game lead over both Milwaukee and St. Louis, who fell to the Braves, 9-4.
Braves ace Tim Hudson is hoping for a miracle but unfortunately for Timmy, Mike and the Mechanics have left the building and Tommy John surgery looks to be imminent.
The Phillies finished off their sweep of the Nationals with a 8-4 victory. Jimmy Rollins and Jayson Werth both had homers in the game as the Phillies collected their fifth straight win. They now have a one game lead over the idle Mets in the NL East.
The Angels were not very heavenly to the Yankees, spoiling Ivan Rodriguez's debut with the Bombers while launching 3 three run homers in route to their 12-6 win. The Yankees completed a minor league swap with the Nationals, getting pitcher Jhonny Nunez for shortstop Alberto Gonzalez.
The Nationals also released infielder Felipe Lopez and catchers Paul Lo Duca and Johnny Estrada.
For LA, Manny cannot come soon enough after being edged by the Diamondbacks, 2-1. Brandon Webb picked up his 15th win of the season.
Khalil Greene should learn that hitting a wall with your fist is never a good call. Greene struck his hand in frustration and ended up breaking his left hand, forcing him to possibly miss the remainder of the season. Next time just shatter your bat in anger, it will only cost you two to three weeks not six to eight.
Nascar Update:
Pocono is just around the corner for Cup guys this weekend. Noted for its odd three turns, the track features wide open spaces and camoes by nature's creatures. (Anyone remember the deer?) Last year Kurt Busch dominated, can he do it again? Or will Denny Hamlin and his 2.8 average finish find himself in victory lane? You'll have to watch the Sunoco Red Cross Pennsylvania 500 to find out. Tune into to ESPN at 1 PM/est to watch all the fun.
While the Cup boys are in Pennsylvania, the Nationwide Series will be turning left and right in Montreal. Jacques Villeneuve will be making his Nationwide Series debut.
Popo in my crib News:
Giants running back Ahmad Bradshaw may have to spend an additional 30 days in jail for probation violations. Lucky for Bradshaw, he wouldn't have to serve it until after the football season is over. So say John Doe committs a crime and serves 30 days and then says, hey can we like wait another 8 months before I serve the rest of this, I have vacation plans and stuff, I doubt he's getting the split sentence. I know, I know, I should have been a better athlete. Watch out Ahmad, because the popo are on your tail!
News&Notes: A Dallas based arbitrator ruled that Don Nelson should receiver almost $6.3 million in deferred payments. A mixed bag for Mavs owner Mark Cuban, who was celebrating his birthday when decision was reached...So much for I'm the quarterback and we don't need Brett Favre. QB Jeff Garcia was injured during a passing drill. Luckily for him, it was not serious...Don't worry Olympians, the air quality isn't as bad as it used to be in China. Who was the moron who chose Beijing for the Olympics again?...So the good news, Roger Federer will be caring the Swiss flag at the Olympics...The bad news, he lost another match but worse yet he could lose his grip on being No. 1. Get this guy some alcohol and stat.
