New Jersey teen dies during football practice

As many of you readers know, I enjoy looking at the lighter side of sports, the college students who don’t get that stealing a credit card is a bad call, the pros who never know when one is too many and the crazy fans that make sporting events so much fun. But every once in a while you read a story that has no light hearted moments. One that forces you to ask “why?” And this is such a story.

On Monday, a 13 year old Waldwick, NJ boy collapsed during football practice and died. Sean Fischer was in the middle of a drill when he fell to the ground. Two of his teammates thought he was kidding around, but a father on the sideline realized it was no laughing matter and rushed to the boy, administering CPR. Paramedics arrived on the scene and used a defibrillator before taking him to Valley Hospital in Ridgewood where he was pronounced dead. The practice was the first for the team in full padding and could have contributed to his death, but at this point a cause of death is not known. The event has left many in the community shaken.

My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.

It’s been fun blogging with you,
