The hangover

NASCAR Update:
Sad news for a member of NASCAR's first family, Lesa France Kennedy's husband, Dr. Bruce Kennedy was killed yesterday when his plane crashed into two homes in surburban Orlando. Kennedy, his pilot Michael Klemm and three people who were on the ground at the time of the accident were killed. Three others were taken to area hospitals, with a ten year old boy then transfered to an Ohio burn center with third degree burns on 80-90 percent of his body. This tragedy comes in a long line of plance accidents that have effected the NASCAR community, most recently a plane crash in Virginia that killed ten people on their way to Martinsville in 2004.

On the otherside of the coin, Jeff Gordon has released photos of he, Ingrid and their baby girl Ella, who was born on June 20th.

Motorsports Authentics could lose $15-20 million because of Dale Earnhardt, Jr.'s switch from DEI to Hendrick Motorsports. The announcement has resulted in lower merchandise sales. I'm sure they'll make it up next year when Junior nation has to buy a new load of crap! (When I say crap, I mean valuables that one cannot live without, or at least that's what I tell myself.)

MLB
The AL extended their All-Star win streak on Tuesday, beating the NL 5-4. Ichiro Suzuki (who's in the midst of contract negotiations with the Seattle Mariners which could net him $90-100 million over five years) scored the first inside the park homerun in All-Star history and picked up the MVP award in his seventh appearance in the mid-season classic. MLB takes the day off before resuming play on Thursday.

Bud Selig has yet to decide if he'll be in the stands when Barry Bonds breaks the homerun record saying he "has a day job." Yeah, I'm pretty sure attending that game wouldn't intrude on your "day job." Isn't that what the blackberry is for?

Popo in my Crib news:
So this is what Pacman traded his Crossfire in for...Jones was stopped on June 10th in Williamson County for a registration violation after his orange Lamborghini had tags that did not match the car. Seems Pacman had switched plates with another car he owned, which is a big no-no. He also was cited for failure to show proof of insurance and residency violation for having a Georgia license plates. Watch out Pacman, becuase the popo are on your tail!

News & Notes: CMT is bringing back CMT on Tour this fall. The concert will feature Sugarland, Little Big Town and Jake Owens. For a list of dates click here...Congratulations to Charlie Sheen and his soon to be third wife, Brooke Mueller on their engagement...Tony Kanaan and Sam Hornish, Jr. were fined and put on probation after their little dust up following the conclusion of the Watkin's Glen IRL race on Sunday. Andretti Green Racing and Team Penske were also fined and put on probation for unsportsman like conduct. Don't look for Sam Hornish, Sr. on pit lane because he has been banned and put on probation. The post-race incident stemmed for a actual race incident when the two touched wheels...Finally, congratulations to Springfield, VT for winning the battle of the Springfields. The small town with a population of only 9,300 has earned the right to host the world premiere of The Simpsons Movie on July 21st. Who's in the mood for a road trip?

It's been fun blogging with you,
Kate
