September 19, 2006

Happy Tuesday everyone! Only one more week until Gilmore Girls season premiere!

Last night was the official start to the new TV season. Both How I Met Your Mother and Studio 60 premiered. I felt like HIMYM was more of a set up episode and hope that next weeks gets back into the groove of the show. Studio 60 was really awesome. I felt like the chemistry isn’t completely hitting on all cylinders, but that the writing is great, the acting was on par and I love Matthew Perry in this new role. He brings the sarcasm of Chandler, but with more of an edge. I really feel like this show can become as good as the West Wing, but I cannot make any true judgments until I see a few more episodes.

Premiering tonight:
8-9PM
NCIS (CBS)
9-10PM
Law & Order: Criminal Intent (NBC)
The Unit (CBS)
10-11PM
Boston Legal (ABC)
Law & Order: SVU (NBC)
Smith (CBS)

Braves Update:
Andruw Jones and Daryle Ward both connected on homeruns last night as the Braves defeated the Nationals 6-1. Kyle Davies pitched five solid innings allowing only one run. Kyle finally seems to be heading back to his competitive ways. The Braves take on the Nationals tonight at 7:05 on TS.

Games to .500: 4
Games behind San Diego Padres: 5.5
Games behind New York Mets: 18.5

Braves notes: With last night’s homerun, Andruw Jones moves past Hank Aaron to sole possession of 3rd place on the Braves all time homerun list. Congrats Andruw!

NASCAR Update:
Kevin Harvick and the rest of the 29 bunch established themselves as the team to beat in the Chase for the Nextel Cup picking up their second straight win in Loudon on Sunday. Harvick also lead the most laps picking up an additional five bonus points. The top ten was littered with Chase contenders including Jeff Gordon, Denny Hamlin, Jeff Burton and Matt Kenseth. Mark Martin and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. finished just outside the top ten with an 11th place and 13th place finish. But it wasn’t all sunny for the Chasers, Hendrick Motorsports teammates, Jimmie Johnson and Kyle Busch finished 39th and 38th after slapping the wall during the race. Tony Stewart seems to have the eleventh spot all locked up after capturing second place. (Let’s see if he actually shows up in New York to pick up his 11th place trophy or if he pulls a Gordon and watches it on TV from his beach side bungalow in Fiji.) Dave Blaney picked up his second straight top ten with a ninth place finish. Maybe Bill Davis Racing isn’t as far behind as I thought, or maybe they just have one good racecar that worked at both Richmond and New Hampshire.

Giants Update:
The Giants are amazing and they proved it on Sunday. The Giants faced a 17 point deficit going into the fourth quarter but were able to tie it up with 7 seconds remaining off of a Jay Feely field goal. In OT, Eli Manning was able to connect on a 31 yard touchdown pass to Plaxico Burress as the Big Blue defeated their NFC east rivals, the Philadelphia Eagles 30-24. The Giants are now tied with the Eagles and the Dallas Cowboys for first in the NFC East. The Giants take on the reigning NFC champs, the Seattle Seahawks in Seattle on Sunday.

Around Sports:
The Jaguars defeated the Steelers 9-0 in Big Ben’s return. Maybe Ben should have taken an extra week off to make sure he was back to normal.

You can bid on an apology ball from Pete Rose. While Rose never wanted the balls to be sold, he did admit to signing them. Approximately 30 balls with “I’m sorry I bet on baseball” and Pete’s John Hancock on them will be auctioned off in April. That teaches Rose to sign any baseballs for free!

Popo in my Crib News:
Willie Nelson was caught possessing marijuana and hallucinogenic mushrooms after his tour bus was pulled over near Breaux Bridge, LA yesterday. Nelson and four of his tour band mates are facing misdemeanor charges. Willie watch out, because the popo is on your tail!

Celebrity Tid Bits:
Aaron Carter is engaged to playmate girlfriend Kari Anne Peniche. Supposedly, the two have been dating for one whole week. Peniche has also dated Carter’s older brother and former Backstreet Boy, Nick. I wonder if this will make into their new reality show, House of Carters?

Kenny Chesney will be all over your tube this week. He’ll appear on Regis and Kelly tomorrow, September 20th as well as tape episodes of Best Damn Sports Show Period and Quite Frankly. He’ll also be on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno on Thursday. This is all to promote his new CD, Live: Live Those Songs Again which came out today.

George Strait knows a great song when he hears one. He already released a compilation CD featuring 51 of his number one songs and now he has a new one to add to the list. “Give it Away,” from his forth coming record, It Just Comes Natural, hit the top of the charts this week. This is his 53rd number one record. It’s been a great month for him with this number one record and being inducted into the CMA Hall of Fame!

Congratulations go out to Bradley Cooper. The Alias star has gotten engaged to Spin City alum Jennifer Esposito. The two plan to marry in December in the South of France.

Happy Birthday Wishes go out to former SNL cast members Jimmy Fallon and Cheri Oteri.

It’s been fun blogging with you,

Kate
