Happy September!
Arthur Ashe Stadium
Today I’m heading over to Queens to catch the US Open.
Here are a few pictures from the event:
Roger Federer after his win
American James Blake
I liked that the winners hit signed tennis ball into the stands. I think that's a great tradition to get the players closer with the fans.
I also loved James Blakes cheering section. I was waiting for them to be quieted down, this is the U.S. Open, not Shea Stadium, but they never were. Well we left after the second set, so I don't know if that's completely true!
Movies out this weekend:
Crank
The Wicker Man (poor Nicholas Cage)
Crossover (actually the feel bad award goes tot Wayne Brady)
Lassie
This Film is Not Yet Rated (really, that’s your movie title?)
Braves Update:
Well the streak had to come to an end, better against the Giants than say the Phillies, but the Braves did not go down without a fight. John Smoltz pitched an uncharacteristically poor game being charged with 7 runs in less than six innings, but the relief staff only allowed one more run after that, a good showing for them. The Braves went into the bottom of the seventh down 7-1, but were able to put four runs on the board that inning and one more in the ninth. Although, It was not enough as the Braves lost 8-6. Jeff Francoeur went 2-3 with a walk, number 15 on the season. Is it wrong that he has more homeruns than walks? The Braves begin their series with the Phillies tonight and hopefully can get all four games in this weekend. (Especially Saturday’s day game…I’m just saying)
Games to .500: 6
Games behind San Diego Padres: 4.5
Games behind New York Mets: 19
Braves Notes: It’s September 1st which means that major league teams can expand their rosters. The Braves are expected to call up Joey Devine, Willy Aybar, Kyle Davies, Brayan Pena, Brian Jordan and Scott Thorman…The Braves acquired Daryle Ward from the Washington Nationals for Luis Atilano. Ward will be used mostly as a pinch hitter.

NASCAR Update:
NASCAR is in Fontana this weekend. Sadly, the seats will probably not be filled, celebs like Kate Hudson and Chris Robinson will have comped seats, and the racing will be well, flat track, cookie cutter. Why don’t we race in Darlington on this weekend anymore?
Qualifying is tonight at 6:30 on Speed
Sony HD 500 is on Sunday at 7 on NBC
Tony Stewart was uninjured when his car flipped during a charity event for Kasey Kahne’s foundation. The event raised $144,000 for sick and underprivileged children’s charities. I guess that’s one way to make it into the chase, Kasey.
Kyle Busch will be inducted onto the walk of fame at California Speedway. Who else made said walk of fame? Do you just have to pay $25 to make it onto said walk of fame? Because I have $25. Do you mind if I send a check though, I really don’t like to send cash across country. You never know what could happen to it.
Giants Update:
The Giants defeated the New England Patriots 31-23 last night bringing Big Blue to 4-0 in the preseason. The last time the Giants went undefeated in preseason play was in 1990 when they won the Super Bowl.
Around Sports:
The US basketball team lost to Greece at the World Semifinals. They will once again not win the gold medal. I really thought Coach K would be able to bring the gold home, but I guess not this year.
Tommy Glavine will return to the mound tonight for the Mets in Houston. This is the first start since discovering a blood clot in his shoulder two weeks ago.

Celebrity Tid Bits:
The VMAs were last night. Unfortunately, I missed them. Well actually, after reading a few reviews it seems that it was better that I watched the Braves than watch the VMAs. Did I mention the Braves lost? Yeah, they were that bad!
Jeff Foxworthy’s Big Night will debut tonight on CMT with special guest Kenny Rogers.
Birthday wishes go out to Scott Speedman (31), Tempestt Bledsoe (34), and Dr. Phil (56).
It’s been fun blogging with you,
Kate
