Phillies Photo Day 2006

So this weekend I headed on down to Philadelphia to watch my beloved BRAVES take on the Phillies. The bad news, the game was rained out, the good news, Picture Day was not. I have to admit I developed a minor Phillies crush. His name, Aaron Rowand. You may remember Aaron as the player who used his face as pad for the rest of his body when he caught a fly ball. He broke his nose and ended up the DL for a bit. I’m all for players who sacrifice their bodies to make an out. Now, Aaron, you may have a girlfriend, a fiancĂ© or even a wife, and she really doesn’t need to worry because a relationship between us would never work out…I love the Braves and you play for the Phillies…we’re just too different.

We got to see a ton of players like:

Chase Utley (We saw him drive out of the park in a really nice Mercedes after the game was called)

Bobby Abreu

Ryan Howard

David Bell
and Pat Burrell (Who just breezed on by, enjoy St. Louis Pat!)

Chris Coste

Manager Charlie Manuel

Flash Gordon

Rick White (quite possibly the best picture I took all day)

Geoff Geary (notice the picture on the big screen is of Geary)

Then I began my Braves stalking. I did pretty well. A bunch of pitchers were warming up before the game like

Tim Hudson and Oscar Villarreal

Kyle Davies (Still on the DL after groin surgery) and McCay McBride

Kenny Ray

Jorge Sosa

Then Brian McCann with his tunnel vision walked right on by. It’s ok, if that’s what you have to do to maintain your all-star playing then keep on walking!

Don't forget to stretch Brian!

And then the rains came…

All and all not it was not a bad day. The make up game is Saturday, September 2, 2006 @ 1PM.

Braves Update:
Braves beat the Phillies 5-1 last night. The game included a solo homerun from Edgar Renteria in the 4th off Brett Myers (tying the game at 1 a piece) and 3 run shot by Jeff Francoeur in the 9th off Flash Gordon (blowing the game wide open, 5-1).

Braves take on the Phillies tonight at Citizen’s Bank Park. Game airs on TS at 7:05.

Games to .500: 5
Games behind Cincinnati Reds: 5
Games behind New York Mets: 12.5

NASCAR Update:
Also this week, the NASCAR boys invaded the keystone state for the Pennsylvania 500. (What an original title!) If you felt like you had seen this race before, you did, 6 weeks ago. Once again Denny Hamlin won, this time his spinning in the grass was reserved for a Saturday drive with Carl Edwards and the winner’s celebration. Dale Jr. brought up the rear for the second straight week dropping him for 4th in points following the Pepsi 400 to 11th in points. I bet someone’s excited that this weeks an off week and that he’s not spending it at Kurt Busch’s wedding!! Tony Stewart had a rather eventful race, spinning out Clint Bowyer, being black flagged for rough driving, making up a lap the old fashioned way, getting spun out on pit road by Carl Edwards (who couldn’t handle getting spun out as a result of Tony and then Tony giving him the finger). Tony ended up finishing in 7th place Sunday, moving him up to 10th in points.

Random quote: Casey Mears, driver of the 42 Texaco Havolin Dodge for Chip Ganassi Racing in the pop culture grid on si.com: Kevin Federline is “Not really worth commenting on.” I always knew I liked Casey for some reason, and not just because we are the same height!

Celebrity Tid bits:
*Toby Keith’s new movie, Broken Bridges arrives in theaters on September 8, 2006. It also stars Kelly Preston, so you know this will be Oscar worthy!

*Congratulations go out to Gary Allan whose CD “See if I Care” featuring “Songs about Rain” went platinum!

*Janet Jackson wants to have kids. Isn’t your brother Michael Jackson and isn’t it not a good idea to have little kids around him? Here’s hoping you have a girl.

*Barry Bonds turns 42 today. Isn’t it time to retire, there can only be one Julio Franco!

*Beverly Hills, 90210 will be coming to DVD this fall. The first season will be available November 7, 2006. So if anyone was wondering what to get me for Christmas, this would be it!

It’s been fun blogging with you,

Kate
