July 28, 2006
I’m starting a new thing this week, it’s called movie reviews…but the catch is, I haven’t actually seen any of these movies, so my reviews come strictly from the movie trailers, and since I don’t have volume on my computer, the review is based on the nuance of the acting…here goes:
Miami Vice ® Staring Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell
First of all, this movie looks like a lot of things are going to be blown up. Until half way through the trailer I was thinking that they weren’t allowed to shoot this during daylight hours, because Jamie and Colin were way too hung over to work. Then towards the end, daylight came through, although neither star were in these scenes, so the last sentence probably holds true. I believe this movie will be all action and very little substance, but when Colin Farrell’s acting in a movie that’s pretty much what you want! I learned that this film’s director also directed “Collateral,” so since I didn’t see that movie, it doesn’t mean much to me, but to others it may make them think twice about spending $10 to see it. The trailer also reveals that this movie will feature more bedtime stories than Madonna is allowed to tell.
B-
The Ant Bully (PG) featuring the voices of Nicholas Cage, Meyrl “I’ve been in almost every movie that has come out this summer” Streep and Julia Roberts
I’m going to be honest; this movie might be scary for those children who have not graduated past the G level. A frog tries to eat a poor shrunken kid alive. (I also believe I saw this movie when it was in the live action format, it was called “Honey we shrunk the Kids.”) Creepy moment: I really thought that the child that is shrunken by ants was naked and that would have really crossed the line. More so than the “All good teenagers take off their clothes,” of Aladdin fame. But then you find out he is only topless. Seriously, did Michael Jackson make this film? Also I think the kid falls in love an ant, and then the trailer kind of froze on my computer, so I don’t know what is going to happen next…and I sadly want to know!
A-
John Tucker Must Die staring the Gardner from “Desperate Housewives” (Jesse Metcalf), Brittany Snow, Ashanti, and Sophia Bush
Ok, even watching this trailer without the sound on I could tell this one’s going to be a stinker. Apparently Mr. Tucker dates Lindsay from “Gilmore Girls”, Ashanti and Sophia Bush at the same time. Poor Sophia Bush, even in the movies she gets cheated on. She really doesn’t seem like that bad of a girl. Team Sophia…anyway, somehow Brittany Snow gets involved and then John Tucker (assuming that is Jesse Metcalf’s character) is wearing a pair of red lacy underwear which for some unknown and unappreciated reason becomes a thong…ehhh! I’m stopping this review out of protest!
F
Little Miss Sunshine ® starring Greg Kinnear and Steve Carell
The first thing they show is Steve Carell writing on a piece of notebook paper that he ‘Hates everyone” Gee thanks there Steve, comments like that will not win you any friends. Then a little girl, who looks like me circa 1986 minus the Keith Hernandez mustache, gets really excited, why I don’t know, once again, no volume. Anyway, apparently someone who saw this film found it to be “Heartfelt and Hilarious.” So that’s a good sign. Also the family is driving in a yellow VW van, so even if that’s the only shtick, it’s good for a couple of laughs. I have to say that before watching this trailer I wasn’t sure if I wanted to see it, but after reading all of those great reviews flashed across the screen, I’m all for it. This movie gets my must see stamp of approval. A
Braves Update:
The Braves suffered an embarrassing 6-1 loss to the Florida Marlins yesterday afternoon. The lone offensive highlight was Jeff Francoeur’s solo shot in the 7th off of Marlin’s relief pitcher Messenger. It was his 20th homerun tying him with Adam LaRoche for second on the team. Jason Shiel in his second appearance for the Braves managed to give up only 3 runs in 5 innings, an improvement from his last start against the Cardinals where he gave up 9 earned runs. The Braves take on the New York Mets tonight at Turner Field. This is a must win series, if the Braves have any hope of continuing their unparalleled run of divisional titles. Game is at 7:35 on TBS.

NASCAR Update:
It’s sad when this is the only news of the day, Kurt Busch married long time girlfriend Eva Bryan yesterday in Virginia. Good luck Eva! This is apparently such big news that it even made people.com as an exclusive. Apparently 250 people attended (where they found these people, I don't know). The theme of the wedding was “glow.” I’m sorry aren’t you supposed to be theme. This is not a bat/bar mitzvah! Let’s see if being a married man will calm him down. I for one, am hoping not. (See Tuesday’s entry for why)
Giants Update:
Eli and Kenny at MSG
For all of you fans (stalkers) wondering where Eli Manning is, he has gotten off the Kenny Chesney bus and landed in Albany, NY at Giants training camp. He's kind of hoping the friendship bracelet he made for Plaxico Burress will show Plaxico his true feelings. He's really sorry about the wild card game against the Panthers. He would love it if you would start talking to him again. Frankly Plaxy, for the good of the Giants, it would be nice if you stopped giving Eli the silent treatment. I'm just saying, your a really good WR and your super tall, which is great because sometimes Eli throws to imaginary people and you can jump and catch them before the ball goes out of bounds, or worse in the hands of the other team. Throw to the people in Blue Jerseys Eli, Blue, your on BIG BLUE! Anyway, here's hoping for Giants continued success in 2006, go Big Blue!
In other news:
Albert Belle may face 90 days in jail for stalking his ex-girlfriend. Thank goodness, because I couldn't stand getting those creepy phone calls late at night!
“ESPN's Harold Reynolds has been fired for alleged sexual harassment after reportedly hugging a female co-worker at an Outback Steakhouse. Reynolds says he was misled by Outback's motto of ‘No rules, just right.’”

Celebrity Tid Bits:
Dierks Bentley's new ablum will be released October 31st. It features his new hot single, "Every Mile a Memory."
Miranda Lambert calls Blake Shelton a "very close friend." Gee, I hope Blake didn't leave his wife to a be a very close friend to Miranda.

In Yesterday's post I had a where are they now question about Andrew Ridgely (I believe I referred to him as Andrew “something”) from Wham. He now lives in Cornwall, England with his partner Keren Woodward (of the female pop group Bananarama). (Thanks Howard.)
I’m heading down the shore this weekend and will be unable to post until Tuesday.
It’s been fun blogging with you,

Sometimes people question why I love the Braves. Well, I love America and "The Atlanta Braves have marched to the playoffs each of the last 14 Octobers as division winner. No backdoor wild-card berth for them. It's the red carpet for America's Team." -Hal Bodley from USA Today
Braves Update:
It was a homerun derby for the Braves in their 6-5 win over the Marlins, a game which also saw the return of the Jones boys. Brian McCann, Andruw Jones, with a game tying shot, and Adam LaRoche, with the game winner, all went deep. It was nice to see after Tuesday’s break down, that Rochie was able to get back to biz-ness. (He’s hit 7 homeruns in the month of July.) Just so Roche wouldn’t feel bad about getting kicked out of the game Tuesday; Bobby Cox got himself thrown out in the 8th inning. It was the 124th ejection of his managerial career. I love Bobby Cox, he really stands up for his players and isn’t afraid to get thrown out of games. He’s like a tamer Bobby Knight, because he doesn’t throw chairs or bats into the stands…yet! John Smoltz picked up the win and Bob Wickman picked up his second save as a Brave. I’m sure Smoltzy is excited to have a consistent closer in the bullpen after leaving six games this season with the win in hand only to watch the lead erased, and the Braves lose. The Braves cap off their series with the Marlins today at 1:05 on TBS.
Rumors: Wilson Betemit to the Yankees for reliever Scott Proctor. (Yeah we need pitching, relief pitching for sure, but I’m not convinced that Chipper Jones and Marcus Giles are going to be healthy for the rest of the season, and Pete Orr is just not a good enough back up if heaven forbid we need him for longer than a game or two.)
Games to .500: 4
Games behind Cincinnati Reds: 4.5
Games behind New York Mets: 11.5
Random Quote: "I'm a cramper. I've always been a cramper." - Tim Hudson, Pitcher for the Braves on leaving the game early on Tuesday.
NASCAR Update:
Headline: “Yate's ride pique Craven's interest in Cup return”...but I don't know if Craven's interest piqued Doug or Robert Yates.
Bobby Ginn, a Florida developer, has purchased a majority share of MB2. Both Joe Nemechek and Sterling Marlin currently drive for the MB2 in the Nextel Cup Series. Former drivers include current Truck Series driver, Johnny Benson, current driver of the #10 Valvoline Dodge for Evernham Motorsports, Scott Riggs, and Jerry Nadeau who was injured in a practice crash in Richmond in 2003 and has not driven in the Cup Series since.
News from all over:
A councilwoman in Middletown, NY found a severed head in her swimming pool. I really don't like Gov. Corzine, but I don't think that I would ever do that. First of all, where do you find a severed horse head? And you know it's got to be fresh because you want the blood swimming around in the pool. And then you have to somehow transport said head...I'm really getting grossed out thinking about this.
Exxon reported profits of $10 billion, coming a few days after BP reported profits of $7.3 billion. Yeah, I know there are various factors that go into the price of gas, fighting in the Middle East, rebels taking over the government in South American and African countries, taxes…but seriously can’t you do like a cash back or something. The government does is all the time, it’s called rebates. Hell, even Bank of America does it; they take money from your checking and put into your savings and pretend like your saving more money! Come on, Exxon, Brandon Davis just came back from rehab so his cocaine and liquor bills will be lower for the next two months until he gets back to hanging out with firecroch and start doing lines in the bathroom at Butter or wherever these crazy kids hang out these days.
Celebrity Tid Bits:
For all of you that were worrying, George Michael’s wedding will go on as scheduled. The fact that he is a seriously wealthy guy seems to overshadow his midnight behavior in the park. Remember when he was in Wham? What ever happened to that other guy, Andrew something? I bet he’d marry George, if George’s finance backs out at the last minute, ala Scott Wolf to Alyssa Milano.
The Hoff is a single man! Dreams do come true, I just hope this time he doesn't throw me out of his car because I live so far away.
Birthday wishes go out to A-Rod who turns 31 today. So when he makes an error or strikes out with runners in scoring position you can’t boo him, just cover your eyes and make a wincing face, because it’s his birthday and all. Tomorrow you can go back to booing or yelling, “Trade-Rod!” Four more days until the trade deadline…

Last night I went to sleep at about 7:30, my goodness I was tired. I didn’t even make it to the first episode of Gilmore Girls at 8, or the gym. Oh well, I think today will be a one Starbucks kind of day, thanks to that 10 hour nap I took last night.
Braves Update:
Braves watching the game from the dugout
It was a hard fought battle between two rookie starters, Chuck James for the Braves and Anibal Sanchez for the Marlins. Unfortunately, for the Braves, Chucky came out on the losing end, in a 2-1 pitchers duel. This is James’ first loss this season. Adam LaRoche was ejected after arguing a called third strike with the home plate umpire, Bill Miller, which after watching the replays was totally inside! I’m glad that Rochie stood up for himself and really showed some fire. I didn’t really know he had it in him. For a second I thought I was looking at a young, skinny Tony Stewart! Andruw Jones pinch hit for Tyler Yates in the 8th inning, marking his first plate appearance since Friday’s game against the Phillies, but he is not expected to start tonight. Although, if Ryan Langerhans continues to play defense like he did last night, he might be spending some more time, well, in left field once Andruw comes back. In other happy Braves news, Chipper Jones says he’s feeling much better and even asked Manager Bobby Cox to play last night. He didn’t, but he might be able to pinch hit as early as tonight. The Braves play against the Marlins tonight at 7:35 on FSN.

NASCAR update:
Well this isn’t really a NASCAR update, because I knew she wasn’t going to NASCAR, but Danica Patrick has signed with Andretti Green for the 2007 season. I would say that she’s going to be a in a lame duck situation for the rest of the year, but besides Indy and last week at Milwaukee, she hasn’t really been running that well. Hopefully, by moving from Rahal-Letterman to Andretti Green, she’ll be able to live up to the potential seen in her break out rookie season.
In other NASCAR news, there is a swirl of rumors surrounding Busch series driver, David Gilliland. You may remember him as the shocking winner of the Kentucky Race in June. Since then he’s been rumored to be in talks with Roush Racing, Richard Childress Racing, and most recently Robert Yates Racing. If you want my two cents, which I doubt you do, I’d say go with Richard Childress Racing. You would be able to develop your talents in the Busch Series with a stellar team. (Note that Kevin Harvick and Jeff Burton have enjoyed tons of success, winning a combined 6 races in the Busch Series this season.) You would also be able to race in a few select Nextel Cup races throughout the year. Don’t be a David Stremme, coming up way too soon. He has been clinging to the 35 spot in points all year. I doubt you’ll find many teams that will stick with you like Chip Ganassi Racing did with Casey Mears. But, I’m sure you eating all those M&M’s doesn’t mean that you’ll be going with Robert Yates Racing? I think a team with two sub-31 year old drives with combined Busch Series starts under a full season, could really take 35th place in points by storm!
Dale Jr. is not panicking about his position outside of the chase. Good, because I am, I’m probably panicking enough for you, Tony Jr., Teresa Earnhardt, and whoever you’re dating right now. So Dale Jr., continue to stay calm!

For all of you who have been following my ring drama, you should be happy to know that on Monday I finally got it. What kills me the most is that someone must have told her, "No one will notice that the top is navy and the hot pants and 80's boots are black." Yeah, I noticed! Her vocals were amazing. I'm really loving "Young and Beautiful," a song I wasn't thrilled with when I originally got the album.
Kenny Chesney preformed twice. He did "Living in Fast Forward" and "Summertime." Two lucky girls won tickets to see him in New York at GMA and then he flew them back to Nashville on his private plane! Seriously, what about me Kenny, I do not like to fly with those regular people on my airplane.
Sara Evans helped two lucky fans get engaged. She even helped out a brother by upgrading the .4 karat ring he could afford, to a $5000 1 karat ring he thought his soon to be fiancee would love! How sweet. Sara sang "I could not ask for more" (A song also preformed by Edwin McCain.)
Jennifer Nettles from Sugarland gave one lucky fan the ultimate bachelorette party. Sugarland preformed "Down in Mississippi"
Dierks Bentley preformed "Slowdown." This is one of my favorite songs on his newest album but I didn't like it when you preformed it on the ACMs, or when you preformed it at the Kenny Chesney concert two weeks ago, and I didn't like it when you preformed it last night. Stop ruining the song, Dierks!
Last night Adam LaRoche hit two homeruns in a game that once again saw the Jones boys on the bench. Bob Wickman, acquired last week in a trade with the Cleveland Indians, picked up his first save as a Brave in a 10-8 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies capping off their 9 game road trip. The Braves went 7-2 over a span that saw them play the NL West leading San Diego Padres, the NL Central leading St. Louis Cardinals, and the Phillies. The Braves return home for a three game series against the Florida Marlins that begins tonight. The game is at 7:35 on TS.

NASCAR update:
Tony Stewart apologized for his actions during Sunday's race at Pocono, "I'm taking 100% responsibility for the final incident that occurred on lap 32 between myself, the 07 (Clint Bowyer) and the 99 (Carl Edwards). It was totally my fault." No way! I guess those anger management classes, I mean sports psychology sessions are really helping. Accepting blame is the first step! Seriously, for Tony to continue to be a great driver he has to maintain that aggressive behavior behind the wheel. I'm sorry if that pisses people off, but maybe they shouldn't be so sensitive. I hear there's an opening on the curling team for the next winter Olympics. Even Jeff Gordon shoved Matt Kenseth this year. I think the sport has gotten too bland, and they need a Tony Stewart and even the Busch brothers to maintain some interest, because let's be honest, if not for the Stewart/Bowyer/Edwards action, last weeks race would have been incredibly boring. Hamlin had the race won by lap 3.
Last Wednesday, a bunch of us headed over to the Shake Shack in Madison Square Park. Here are a few pictures:
I have to say that this is probably the best burger I've ever had in NYC. The fact that it only cost $9 for a burger, fries and a shake (although I had the Arnold Palmer) almost negated the 40 minute wait to order the food, almost.

Celebrity tid bits:
Apparently Luke (Scott Paterson) and Lorelei (Lauren Graham) from Gilmore Girls do not get along.
Exhibit A: from eonline.com's TV reporter Kristin Veich "The question, which was asked in front of reporters, was whether it's true that the two of them don't get along, and that that was the reason they were kept apart last season. Lauren's response was, 'I can't kill the dog! What power do you think I have? I don't have any kind of influence on the story like that. I think it is one of those Sam and Diane relationships where, if they're together for too long, the show has to end. So, that's not true.'"
Exhibit B: also from Kristin Veich "KV: Here's what I want to know. What are you personal thoughts as far as Luke and Lorelai? Do you want them to be together?
I will be so pissed if Luke and Lorelei do not end up together. Last year with the whole Rory and Lorelei thing killed me. 9 episodes and it wasn't even resolved well. I like Christopher, but I do not like him with Lorelei. That train rolled out of the station when Lorelei got pregnant and they didn't get married.

Phillies Photo Day 2006
We got to see a ton of players like:
Chase Utley (We saw him drive out of the park in a really nice Mercedes after the game was called)
Bobby Abreu
Ryan Howard
David Bell and Pat Burrell (Who just breezed on by, enjoy St. Louis Pat!)
Chris Coste
Manager Charlie Manuel
Flash Gordon
Rick White (quite possibly the best picture I took all day)
Geoff Geary (notice the picture on the big screen is of Geary)
Then I began my Braves stalking. I did pretty well. A bunch of pitchers were warming up before the game like
Tim Hudson and Oscar Villarreal
Kyle Davies (Still on the DL after groin surgery) and McCay McBride
Kenny Ray
Jorge Sosa
Then Brian McCann with his tunnel vision walked right on by. It’s ok, if that’s what you have to do to maintain your all-star playing then keep on walking!
Don't forget to stretch Brian!
And then the rains came…
All and all not it was not a bad day. The make up game is Saturday, September 2, 2006 @ 1PM.
Braves Update:
Braves beat the Phillies 5-1 last night. The game included a solo homerun from Edgar Renteria in the 4th off Brett Myers (tying the game at 1 a piece) and 3 run shot by Jeff Francoeur in the 9th off Flash Gordon (blowing the game wide open, 5-1).
Braves take on the Phillies tonight at Citizen’s Bank Park. Game airs on TS at 7:05.

NASCAR Update:
Also this week, the NASCAR boys invaded the keystone state for the Pennsylvania 500. (What an original title!) If you felt like you had seen this race before, you did, 6 weeks ago. Once again Denny Hamlin won, this time his spinning in the grass was reserved for a Saturday drive with Carl Edwards and the winner’s celebration. Dale Jr. brought up the rear for the second straight week dropping him for 4th in points following the Pepsi 400 to 11th in points. I bet someone’s excited that this weeks an off week and that he’s not spending it at Kurt Busch’s wedding!! Tony Stewart had a rather eventful race, spinning out Clint Bowyer, being black flagged for rough driving, making up a lap the old fashioned way, getting spun out on pit road by Carl Edwards (who couldn’t handle getting spun out as a result of Tony and then Tony giving him the finger). Tony ended up finishing in 7th place Sunday, moving him up to 10th in points.

The beauty of Fridays in the summer is normally that I get to leave early, but thanks to a mild case of heat stroke or dehydration on Sunday, I have to stay until 5PM. So with my extra five hours, I decided to begin my blog, enjoy!
Listen to this:
Julie Roberts “Men and Mascara”
Don’t confuse Ms. Roberts with that other Julia. Julie’s new cd, “Men and Mascara” features her singles “Men and Mascara” and “The Girl Next Door.” (If this song sounds familiar the pop version by Saving Jane is featured in the opening credits of MTV’s “Tiara Girls.”) Julie’s voice is raspy yet soulful and makes every song come alive. My favorites are “Paint and Pillows,” which details a woman’s discovery of her man’s cheating ways in her house, “Too Damn Young,” where she sings of the magic of your first love, and “Mama, Don’t Cry.” Why this girl isn’t a bigger star, I have no idea. This album, like her debut proves that country is not dead as long as Julie Roberts is singing!
Celebrity gossip:
Yes, I always thought Colin Farrell was hot. I thought he was hot before people even knew who he was (what can I say, always the trend setter.) Anyway, he stumbled a bit, let his hair grow out, dyed it blonde, gained like 30 pounds, went to rehab, blah blah blah, but I just saw a picture of him at the premiere for Miami Vice, it's like I fell in love with him all over again! Oh my, that trip to rehab, losing 45 pounds and cutting the hair looks amazing on him. I hope he really didn't marry Lake Bell. Who am I kidding; he's still Colin Farrell, that ain't gonna last, even if they did get married.
In other news: Christina Aguilera wants kids…in five years. Why is that news? If she’s pregnant now, yeah that’s news, unfortunately that would probably be the lead story on CNN, but news nonetheless. The fact that at some point in her life, she’d be ok with having a kid or two is not news. Although Britney Spears said she wanted to be a young mom, and look at that disaster…Speaking of the Federlines, apparently Kevin wants to prove himself. Honey, just keep the mouth shut, I promise no matter what you do, everyone will hate it, so save yourself the embarrassment, and save us from you! I’m sure you’ll be financially stable after your divorce settlement. Chris Judd got $15 million for a year with J.LO, you impregnated Brit Brit, I’m sure you’ll get at least that much!

Yes, I’m from New Jersey, and yeah the Braves play in Atlanta, but I love them all the same! Since I’m a diehard fan, I will put it out there, 15 straight…that’s right, the Mets will find someway to screw it up and allow the Braves to come in and win their 15th straight, but first getting to .500
