Raining threes

Baseball: The Dodgers have reportedly offered Manny Ramirez a very nice contract that would make him the second highest paid player in baseball behind ARod...Some of that money may come from the paycheck LA is not giving Brad Penny after declining his option...Andy Pettitte will likely be back in the Bronx...The Cardinals could be dealing Rick Ankiel and Ryan Ludwick...The NL Gold Gloves were announced and Greg Maddux picked up his 18th. Seriously, when exactly was he playing this season? Shane Victorino led the list of five first timers!...Congrats to Rays manager Joe Maddon, who is getting married this weekend.



Basketball: Amare Stoudemire scored 49 points in the Suns 113-103 victory over the Pacers...Not be out done, Tony Parker threw down 55 points as the Spurs edged the T'Wolves, 129-125 (2OT)...And LeBron James had 41 points as the Cavs rolled past the Bulls, 107-93...The Pistons stay perfect without the services of the newly acquired Allen Iverson, topping the Raptors, 100-93...Larry Brown was in trouble even before the game started, being booed by the crowd and then coaching his Bobcats to a 101-98 loss to the Knicks.

College Football: Ball State remains undefeated after torching Northen Illinois, 45-14...Kansas State's coach Ron Prince is done...Ray Small's dad is not happy with Ohio State's decision to sit him for two games.

Hockey: Kevin Weekes got his first win as the Devils held off the Lightning, 4-3 (SO)...After a slow start, the Ducks have improved to 8-0-1 in their last nine games including Wednesday's 5-2 win over the Blues...Manny Malhotra scored with 1:09 left to give the Blue Jackets the 5-4 edge over the Oilers...The Dallas Stars signed right winger Mark Parrish to a one year, $500,000 contract...According toa new Forbes study, Colton Orr is the best fighter for the buck. Seriously, has Forbes run out of ideas?

Nascar: Truck Series points leader Johnny Benson will leave Bill Davis Racing as the end of this season...Lowe's has extended its contract to remain naming sponsor of Lowe's Motor Speedway.

Best of the Rest: Ara Abrahamian has been suspended for two years after his "scandalous behavior" at the Bejining Games. For those of you who don't remember, he dropped his medal in protest.

it seems like people assume Ryan Leaf is going to screw up before it actually happens... but i guess this is mostly his own doing
