The NHL has given the Montreal Canadiens Tom Kostopoulos a three game suspension for his vicious hit on Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Mike Van Ryn during the Leafs' 6-3 Saturday night victory. Van Ryn, who remained on the ice for serval minutes, suffered multiple injuries including a concussion and a broken nose and hand and will be out at least a month. For his part, Kostopoulos received a five minute boarding penalty.
Along with his three game holiday, Kostopoulos will be docked $33,000 in pay which will be given to the NHL players’ assistance fund. (source)
