FSU: Not just a party school…who knew?
After last year’s cheating scandal I didn’t think it was possible for Florida State to produce an athlete that could become a Rhodes Scholar, but there I go again making assumptions. Safety Myron Rolle, who graduated in two and a half years with a 3.75 GPA, will arrive late to Saturday’s game against No. 25 Maryland because the New Jersey native first has to stop in Alabama for his Rhodes Scholarship interview.
"In the midst of the troubles that have gone on here at Florida State academically, there are still student-athletes doing the right thing," Rolle said. "Possibly we can move that perception from being a school that's just focused on partying and athletics."
In fact, if Rolle is selected he’ll become the third FSU student and second athlete to receive a scholarship to Oxford University in the last three years. I’m officially going to have to change my stereotype of this school, until someone gets arrested or another 80 kids get involved in a cheating scandal. Count down begins…NOW!
Myron can serve as a role model for any student athlete. He worked incredibly hard on the field but did not allow his extra circulars from interfering with his pursuit of a pre-med degree. He at one time said he wanted to graduate college in three years and beat that fete by a semester. He also plans on continuing his education, eventually becoming a doctor and opening up his own clinic in the Bahamas to help needy people. Good luck, kid!
