December 26, 2006

I hope everyone had a happy holiday this weekend. I feel like I ingested my weight in salt. I’ve spent a large portion of today drinking water, hoping to balance out the salt intact from over the weekend.

I also took a trip around NJ and found a house totally decked out for the holidays. From afar, the house looked great, but up close it was a little scary. I feel bad for the people who live across the street; they probably can’t get any sleep with the glare from the lights.

NASCAR Update:
The National Guard will be moving from the #16 Ford driven by Greg Biffle to the #25 Chevy driven by Casey Mears in 2007.

Giants Update:
It started off great and then just went downhill in a hurry as the Giants lost to the New Orleans Saints 30-7. The Giants have lost 7 of 8, but at 7-8, Big Blue could still make the playoffs with a win over the Washington Redskins on Saturday.

Around Sports:
Baseball
The New York Yankees are looking to deal Randy Johnson, after the pitcher requested a trade to a team closer to his Phoenix home. If the Yankees can get rid of Johnson, they might be interested in obtaining Barry Zito. (si.com)

Basketball
Charlotte Bobcats’ minority owner, Felix Sabates (yeah, that Felix Sabates) wanted to donated his shares in the Bobcats (approx. $1.34 million) to the Carolinas HealthCare System but was blocked by team managing partner, Bob Johnson. Johnson does not want a non-profit having a stake in the Bobcats. (si.com)

The Dakota Wizards’ Martynas Andriuskivicius fractured his skull during a practice scuffle with teammate Awvee Storey. Storey has been suspended indefinitely and the NBA D-League is investigating the incident. (si.com)

Nenad Krstic, my favorite New Jersey Net, will be out for the rest of the season with a knee injury which will require surgery.

Football
The Philadelphia Eagles clinched a playoff spot with their 23-7 win over the Dallas Cowboys on Monday.

NBC has chosen the Green Bay Packers v. the Chicago Bears as their final flex game to be played on December 31st.

Random Quote: "Merry Christmas, Philadelphia." - Jeff Garcia I think I just threw up in my mouth!

Golf
Congratulations to Tiger Woods who was named AP Male Athlete of the Year beating out San Diego Chargers LaDainian Thomlinson and tennis ace Roger Federer.

Congratulations to Lorena Ochoa who was named AP Female Athlete of the Year.

Around the World:
Before you put up your new MySpace page, watch out, thieves who are out to steal your identity are targeting people with MySpace profiles by sending out bogus emails asking for your password. (AP)

If you’re looking for that Ernesto “Che” Guevara CD, don’t check Target, the conglomerate has taken the CD off their shelves after complaints, that the CD praises the “Marxist Revolutionary.” (Reuters)

Celebrity Tid Bits:
Sad news…James Brown died on Monday at the age of 73.

Arnold Schwarzenegger underwent surgery on his broken leg on Tuesday after breaking it while skiing in Idaho. That will teach him to leave California!

TV ALERT: “My Boys” is all new on TBS @ 10 PM/est

COUPLE ALERT: Carrie Underwood and Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo - I’d say it’s a step up from Jessica Simpson. What do you think?

Happy Birthday shout outs to Jared Leto (35) and Lars Ulrich (43)

This weekend was very exciting for my family. Congratulations to my brother and his girlfriend Karen on getting engaged on Friday!

It’s been fun blogging with you,
Kate
