A Record Not Worth Breaking

Baseball: Will Placido Polanco be back with the Phillies?...The Red Sox would really like to bring Jason Bay back...Joey Devine and the A's have agreed on a one year, $557,500 contract... Speaking of former Braves, Rangers catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia was taken out of a game in the Dominican Winter League with an arm injury...Bobby Jenks is not ripe for the picking or so says the White Sox...Dick Enberg will be calling the play-by-play for the Padres...Michael Weiner held his first press conference since taking over the Players' Union from Donald Fehr.


Basketball: The Nets officially got off to the worst start in NBA history after dropping their 18th straight, 117-101 to the Mavs. I bet Jason Kidd is even more excited he is not playing for New Jersey now...The Hawks soared past the Raptors, 146-115...Two big wins in a row was not to be for the Knicks who fell to the Magic, 118-104...The Bulls topped the Pistons, 92-85 in Ben Gordon's return to Chicago...LeBron James is now just 50-50 on the Slam Dunk Contest. Come on, you've got to do it!

College Basketball: For the first time ever, the Big Ten topped the ACC after Duke fell to Wisconsin, 73-69...And Clemson gave up a 23 point second half lead to Illinois...Oh and Ohio State burried Florida State, 77-64 for good messure.

College Football: It's ok not to say everything you are thinking Lane...Florida defensive coordinator Charlie Strong is a leading candidate for the Louisville opening...Other vacanies include Georgia's defensive coordinator after the school fired Mark Richt...Sad news, former Pitt head coach Foge Fazio has died at the age of 71.

Football: Jamal Lewis' career came to a early end after the Browns placed him on IR...Seahawks GM Tim Ruckell is expected to announce his resignation...Roy Williams wants wins while Wade Phillips just wants respect. If you continue to win, the respect will come...Matt Moore will likely start for the Panthers on Sunday. It's probably a win if you only have two interceptions Matty...The NFL is introducing new rules regarding concussions because it seems some players can be a bit hard headed when it comes to this sort of stuff. (Terrible pun intended)

Hockey: The Canucks beat up the Devils, 5-2...It's been a very good week for Marc Savard, first the contract extension and then the Bruin scored his 200th goal as Boston routed the Lightning, 4-1...Stephen Weiss had a hat trick and the game deciding goal in the Panthers' 6-5 Shoot Out victory over the Avalanche. A nice night indeed...Andrew Ebbett's overtime goal helped push the Wild past the Predators, 5-4...Despite a bum knee and a two game suspension, Alexander Ovechkin is not changing his playing style...The Rangers have waived back-up goalie Steve Valiquette and claimed forward Erik Christensen off waivers from the Ducks.
