An Almost of Almosts



Baseball: The Dodgers sure were busy yesterday. They fell to the D'Backs, 5-3...And picked up Jim Thome and Jon Garland...Plus raging wild fires in California has forced LA SS Rafael Furcal to evacuate his home...Meanwhile, the Giants signed Brad Penny...And the Rockies acquired Jose Contreras...Joe Mauer and Jason Kubel homered in the Twins 4-1 victory over the ChiSox...The Rangers almost erased a 11-0 defecit but a seven run ninth inning sealed the 18-10 win for the Blue Jays...Texas has shut down catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia...Speaking of almosts, Andy Pettitte almost had a perfect game and then almost had a no-hitter but still ended up with the "w" as the Yankees topped the Orioles, 5-1...Vlad Guerrero hit two homers while his teammate Juan Rivera added a three run shot in the Angels 10-0 rout of the Mariners...The Braves rallied late to take out the Marlins, 5-2.

Basketball: Ricky Rubio won't be playing in the NBA until at least 2011 after his contract was bough out by FC Barcelona.

Football: Brett Favre played three quarters of the Vikings 17-10 win over the Texans with a broken rib. Brett Favre has a broken rib? WTF!?!?!...Texans QB Matt Schaub sprained his ankle during the game...Osi Umenyiora reportedly went AWOL on Monday after a disagreement with Giants defensive coordinator Bill Sheridan. Awesome, the Giants already are missing a decent receiving core, let's not add pro bowl defensive end to that list...The Chiefs have fired offensive coordinator Chan Gailey...Pacman Jones has signed a contract to play football --- in Canada...Steelers Hall of Famer Mel Blount owes the government $631,000.

Hockey: A Michigan judge has ruled that Red Wings star Sergei Fedorov is entitled to $60 million. Maybe he can buy the Coyotes...The NHL is still investigating the Hossa deal. Worst case scenario, they could void the whole contract. Luckily the Blackhawks have already fired their GM.

Nascar: It's official, Brad Keselowski will race for Penske in 2010. Keselowski will replace David Stremme in both the Cup and Nationwide series...Richard Childress says Kevin Harvick will be with the team in 2010...Yates Racing is replacing Bobby Labonte with driver Erik Darnell in seven of the remaining 12 Spring Cup Races...Benny Gordon will race a 9/11 memorial car at Richmond International Speedway.
