27 and counting: 2009 MLB Playoffs

World Series
Yankees v. Phillies

Yankees 7, Phillies 3
The Yankees wrapped up their 27th World Series title in front of their home fans thanks to a monsterous effort by Godzilla. Hideki Matsui had six RBIs included the games first two in the second inning when he hit a two run homer that gave the Yankees an early lead. He followed that with a two run single in the fourth and added his final two RBIs in the bottom of the fifth when hit a double to deep centerfield that gave the Bombers a lead to big for the Phillies to overcome.
WP: Andy Pettitte (2-0) LP: Pedro Martinez (0-2)
Yankees Win Series 4-2

News&Notes: After his performance on Thursday, it’s no surprise that Hideki Matsui was named World Series MVP. Although Chase Utley certainly made a case in the losing effort…Derek Jeter, Andy Pettitte, Jorge Posada and Mariano Rivera now have one for their thumb…But that’s still behind George Steinbrenner who won his seventh as Yankees ownerRyan Howard set a World Series record with 13 strike outs. That’s a record you’re probably not to thrilled to be breaking…Mark your calendars, the ticker tape parade down the Canyon of Heroes will take place on Friday at 11 AM. I am sensing a lot of people calling out sick tomorrow.
