After learning of Mr. Johnson’s transgressions, the Colts released him saying he had violated team rules and that he was continually reminded of said team rules.
“In this particular case, Ed was well aware that his past history required him to be in complete compliance with club rules… Unfortunately, he chose to violate those rules,” Colts President Bill Polian said. What past history you may have asked? In 2005, he was temporarily expelled from Penn State for “violating the school policy on sexual misconduct and confining another student against the student’s will.” Could you be more vague and yet just descriptive enough to let my imagination run wild? He was later reinstated in 2006, but was suspended for the Outback Bowl for once again violating team rules. His constant poor behavior gave teams enough of a scare that he went undrafted in 2007 but was later signed as a free agent.
The League has yet to announce any punishments, but judging by Roger Goodell’s past judgments, Mr. Johnson will likely being getting his checks through the government’s unemployment office rather than a NFL team.
Johnson is the third Colts player to be involved in something illegal. Running back Kenton Keith was charged with criminal trespassing after he refused to leave the parking lot of nightclub, while receiver Marvin Harrison was interviewed about a shooting in North Philadelphia. Keith has since been released while Harrison is still with the team.
Watch out Ed, because the popo are on your tail!
