The 2008 Nascar Chase drivers descended on New York on Wednesday, posing for photos, talking with the media and scooping ice cream? What to wear to an occasion like this? Well some opted for a suit, some went for just a blazer and Tony Stewart made it a very casual affair.

The biggest surprise for me was Dale Earnhardt, Jr. Seems his recent pairing with Hendrick Motorsports and more notably his teammates Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson has rubbed off on him. The sometimes scruffy driver opted for a red striped collared shirt under what appears to be a navy cable-knit sweater (which I’m praying is cashmere). Oh my prayers have been answered. No longer rocking the wrinkled, untucked dress shirt, Juniors wearing a sweater! Big step up, kid.

Meanwhile, Jimmie Johnson is decidedly more dressed down sporting a white polo with the Lowe’s logo on it (because it’s not proper Nascar attire if it doesn’t include a sponsor logo). The fit is perfect, but with other drivers wearing blazers or the very least a dress shirt, Johnson looks more like he’s being delayed to make tee time, than at media day.
