On Tuesday I taped “My Boys” on TBS because it airs at 10 PM/est which is way past my bed time. Anyway, I watched it last night because, well there’s nothing on Wednesday nights. I completely fell in love with it. It’s like “Sex in the City” except P.J. (the lead) is a writer for the Sun Times. She covers the Chicago Cubs (my dream except obviously I’d cover the Braves) and has a weekly poker game with her older brother and three guy friends. She’s just one of the guys, but her friend Stephanie makes sure that she doesn’t literally become one of the guys. It’s totally surpassed my expectations and I can’t wait for next week’s all new episode!
Braves Update:
So not much on the Braves front besides the whole Glavine thing. He apparently told the Mets he’d have a decision by Sunday, when the winter meetings begin. So here are a few quotes given by his agent Greg Clifton:

There’s some good news for the ailing Giants. All pro linebacker, Osi Umenyiora practiced on Wednesday. Umenyiora hasn’t played since he injured his hip during a game against Dallas five weeks ago. Sam Madison who has missed two straight weeks and Brandon Short also practiced. Michael Straham who took time out from his busy schedule of eating Krispy Cream doughnuts and yelling at female reporters ran some drills for the first time since November 5th. All are getting ready for the Giants next game against the red hot Dallas Cowboys on Sunday.

Last Friday, Rachel and I made a package for a soldier we “adopted.” Let’s just say our soldier is going to be really stoked to receive it. Thanks to Karen, we were able to include a bunch of men’s magazines like Men’s Fitness and all the “manly soaps” he could want. We also included soduku, pens/pencils, a disposable camera, some cookies/candies, killer CDs like the Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Kanye West and a little card to tell him thanks for serving our country. My friend organized the whole thing, but there are thousands of soldiers stationed in Iraq, like ours, and all around the world that would love to receive some goodies from the people back at home. I found a website (anysoldier.com) that has more information on getting involved. If you know of any others just add them to the comments section on the blog.

Also on Friday I went to my five year high school reunion. Completely creepy to think that five years went by and I hadn’t seen many of these people since graduation day and for some I won’t see them for another five years. I’ll admit I had a blast. It was kind of weird that people didn’t really recognize me. I don’t think I’ve changed that much, except now I look like I’m actually old enough to be in high school, as opposed to before when I looked more like I was in middle school. Oh well.
On Saturday I woke up super sick and all I could think of was that I didn’t drink that much on Friday, but it turns out I had a stomach virus and have spent most of the past four days in my bed on the couch trying to sleep. So that’s why I haven’t updated in a few days. Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving, I know I did.

Braves star, Dale Murphy will make his ninth appearance on the Hall of Fame Ballot this year. He joins new comers, Cal Ripken, Jr., Tony Gwynn, Mark McGuire, Paul O’Neill, Bret Saberhagen, and Bobby Bonilla.

MB2 is changing its name. Effective immediately, MB2 will now be called Ginn Racing. It’s home to Joe Nemechek in the #13, Sterling Marlin in the #14 and Mark Martin and David Regan sharing the #01 in 2007.
Congratulations to Roush Racing's Danny O’Quinn for winning the Raybestos Rookie of the Year award in the Busch Series beating veteran Cup driver, John Andretti. Congrats also go out to Roush’s Erik Darnell for picking up the Raybestos Rookie of the Year in the Craftsman Truck Series.

Tom Coughlin said no changes will be made to the New York Giants offense. Quarterback Eli Manning has been in a bit of a slump, but Coughlin believes in him and said that Manning will have to figure out a way to get out of his slump. Yeah, like Jared Lorenzen is a valid option. Coughlin also said he will not be making any coaching changes. Ok, we’ve lost two in a row, but before that we won five in a row. We’ve had a lot of injuries that you have to factor that in, and eventually Michael Straham, Osi Umenyiora and Co will be back.

Congratulations to Minnesota Twins first baseman, Justin Morneau for winning the 2006 American League MVP award over Yankee’s shortstop, Derek Jeter and Red Sox DH, David Ortiz. Morneau is just the second Canadian to win the honor. While the Twins didn’t win the World Series, they are certainly raking up the hardware. Morneau’s roomie, Joe Mauer won the AL batting title and Johan Santana won the AL CY Young. Both Mauer and Santana received MVP votes.

It was a night of upsets as Georgia Tech defeated #12 Memphis 92-85 in the EA Sports Maui Invitational, while #13 Marquette beat #9 Duke 73-62 to capture the CBE Classic championship. Don’t worry, Blue Devils fans, we’re young and it’s early. At least that’s what I’m telling myself!

Thursday night will be the first game broadcast live on the NFL network this season, but don’t run to your television too quickly. Only an estimated 40 million out of a possible 114 million Americans will have access to the game. Currently, Time Warner, Cablevision and Comcast Cable have been unable to strike a deal with the network and it doesn’t seem like they’ll have one in place by Turkey Day. Oh well, it’s only the Broncos and Chiefs.

First daughter, Barbara Bush’s purse was stolen in a restaurant in Argentina. The Secret Service were reportedly present but hanging back to give her some privacy. Bush was not near her purse at the time of the theft. Someone is so getting fired for this.

Yesterday, I wore my Eli Manning shirt all day. Under my sweater at work, over a tank top to the gym (it’s kind of short) and then with my PJ bottoms at home. WE were supposed to win when I wear my shirt. And, yeah, I had it on last week, and things didn’t go so well, but I thought it was a one week thing. Apparently, not! After Eli fumbled, I took it off and threw it on top of my laundry pile in disgust and put on my Jeremy Shockey shirt instead, which got us a touchdown, but it was not enough! (more in my Giants section). Seriously, now what am I going to wear next week?

According to scenedaily.com, David Ragan, who is poised to take over the #6 ride for Roush Racing in 2007, has not been cleared by NASCAR to race at Daytona. Ragan was not cleared to run Atlanta and then failed to qualify for Texas and Homestead. Uh-oh!
Rumors have Robert Yates Racing keeping the #88 in permanent rotation on the track and RYR has Johnny Sauter on the top of their wish list. (foxsports.com)
Giants Update:
It kind of started out well for the Giants on Monday night. They got great field position, and even though they were unable to get a first down on their opening drive they still were able to put three points on the board. With only one first down in the opening half and no late game heroics, the Giants fell to the Jacksonville Jaguars, 26-10. The Giants fall to 6-4 with their second straight loss, and are now tied for first in the NFC East, although they hold the tie breaker after beating Dallas in their first meeting this season.

Congratulations to Philadelphia Phillies slugger, Ryan Howard for picking up the 2006 National League MVP award on Monday. Howard, the 2005 NL Rookie of the Year, hit 58 homers, a Phillies record. He beat 2005 MVP, Albert Pujols and the Houston Astros Lance Berkman for the honor. The American League MVP will be announced on Tuesday.
The Mets signed 40 year old Moises Alou to a one year $7.5 million contract with a $1 million option in 2008. This gives the Mets a proven right handed bat and the chance to deal Lastings Millidge for a possible starter, especially after they declined Tom Glavine’s option. They will try to negotiate a deal with the free agent, Glavine…you know if he doesn’t come back home to Atlanta!
Football
Packers quarterback, Aaron Rogers was placed on IR after breaking his foot on Sunday. Rogers came into the game after Brett Favre injured his elbow and was unable to continue. Favre is expected to be healthy enough to play in the Packer’s next game on Monday.
Swimming
24 year old swimmer, Ian Thorpe has retired after raking up five gold medals during his short career. Thorpe has not competed internationally since 2002’s Athens Olympics where he won two gold medals.

CMT's pro-social initiative, CMT One Country, has launched The Power of One, a campaign focused on mobilizing 1 million volunteers across the United States by the end of 2007. The campaign began during the premiere of CMT Giants: Reba on Saturday (Nov. 18). Proceeds from that show went to Habitat for Humanity, one of CMT One Country's partners and an important cause for Reba McEntire. Other partners include America's Second Harvest, Boys & Girls Clubs of America, Hands On Network and the USO. Nola Ochs will celebrate her 95th birthday on Wednesday. Hopefully, all of that partying won’t interfere with her school work. Ochs is a senior at Fort Hays State University in Kansas. Ochs began this journey in 1930 when Fort Hays was called Kansas State Teacher’s College. In the 1970s she took classes at Dodge City Community College and later at St. Mary of the Plains. She even took virtual classes until she decided to take classes on campus. With only 15 credits to go next semester, Ochs will become the oldest college graduate ever. Good for you, Ms. Ochs!
If you’re in the market for a safe new car, you might want to avoid American made cars…and Toyotas. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety awarded 13 cars their top safety picks. Subaru topped the list with their B9 Tribeca, Forester and Legacy models. Subaru was followed by Audi and Honda for most models on the list at 2 a piece. The A4 and A6 models for Audi and the CR-V and Pilot for Honda were chosen as top picks. Saab, which is owned by GM but a Swedish company, had their 9-3 model selected. Darn, and I was really dying for a new Jeep…

Apparently marathon runners have a higher risk of getting skin cancer due to their prolonged time in the sun. Now, I feel a little better about giving up that whole marathon dream. (abcnews.com)

What I’m listening to: I’ve become completely obsessed with Keith Urban’s new album Love, Pain & the whole crazy thing. Yeah, I was a little late in picking it up, but I'm making up for it. His new album is on non-stop rotation on my ipod. The album does not wonder far from his signature guitar driven country sound and it has the usual can’t miss ballads. Fan of “Making Memories of Us” check out “Everybody,” like his upbeat songs like “Who Wouldn’t Want to be Me” or “Better Life,” don’t miss “I Told You So.” And what would a Keith Urban record be without a monster love song. This album’s “I Won’t Let You Down” will make you wish your name was Nicole Kidman. His heart and talent are all over this record. I give it 3 ½ *.

I spent most of yesterday updating my ipod. I added album photos to every song and then I found the corresponding album titles for songs that were missing them. All totaled, I’d say I worked on it for five hours. But the bonus was that when I restarted the computer, it said that my ipod needed to be reformatted. Yeah!
NASCAR Update:
The 2006 NASCAR season has come to an end. Congratulations to Series champions:

Jimmie Johnson became the first driver since Jeff Gordon in 1997 to win the Daytona 500 and Championship in the same year. Has anyone won the 500, Brickyard and Championship in the same season besides Johnson?
Ford 400 Recap:
Greg Biffle picked up his third straight season ending victory at Homestead, putting a positive spin on an otherwise disappointing season. Kasey Kahne was fast from start to finish, even leading a few times, but ended up fourth, one spot behind Denny Hamlin. Hamlin, the 2006 Reybestos Rookie of the Year, was the top finishing Chaser in the race. Dale Earnhardt, Jr., had the fasted car at points during the day but a slow pit stop, a brush with the wall, and night ending race killed his chances for the win, finishing 19th. Kevin Harvick, Matt Kenseth and Jimmie Johnson round out the Chasers in the top ten.
Shout outs to Jersey’s finest, Martin Truex, Jr. for finishing a career high, second. With a few more laps, Martin probably could have won the race. Also to Kyle Petty, for picking up the 35th spot in points, guaranteeing a start in the Daytona 500.

The NBA is so touchy feely this season. Houston Rockets coach, Jeff Van Gundy was fined $25,000 for comments he made that appeared in the Houston Chronicle criticizing the refs. Come one, this isn’t mommy and me class.

The Indianapolis Colts are perfect no more after losing to the Dallas Cowboys 21-14 in Tony Romo’s first start at home. Drew Bledsoe, I hope you’ve updated your resume.
Donavan McNabb will miss the remainder of the season after tearing his ACL during the Eagles 31-13 loss to the Tennessee Titans. Looks like there are only two playoff bound teams in the NFC East, the GIANTS and the Cowboys.
It took six starts but daddy Matt Leinart finally got his first win as an Arizona Cardinals starter. The Cards beat the Detroit Lions 17-10.
Even after a close loss to #1 Ohio State on Saturday, Michigan remains #2 in the BSC poll.

Rep. Charles Rangel (D-NY) who was recently announced as the head of the House Ways and Means Committee has announced he will try to put a bill through to reinstate the draft. This will be the third time such a bill will be presented in recent years. Rangel believes that if a draft is reinstated, it will prevent wars like the Iraq War, because the troops will be made up of a larger population of people. Rangel was quoted as saying, “There’s no question in my mind that this president and this administration would never have invaded Iraq, especially if indeed we had a draft and members of Congress and the administration thought that their kids from their communities would be placed in harm’s way.” In the past, draft bills have languished with little support from either side. In my opinion, if someone wants to go to war, they’ll create a case strong enough for people to forget about the draft and force people who have no desire to go to war, to be sent to a foreign country to fight for their country. I’m already obsessed with the state quarters, but now comes word that the U.S. mint will release silver dollars featuring all 43 Presidents beginning with George Washington in February 2007. A new coin will be released every three months, with four new silver dollars released a year. I can’t wait for the Richard Nixon silver dollars, because that will be the only money I’ll be using!

The three Columbians (how stereotypical) aboard were arrested. The submarine was only able to submerge 6 feet under water. Watch out three Columbians, because the popo are on your tail!

Maybe blondes don’t have more fun. However, it seems penguins do after taking the top spot at the box office over the new bond film, Casino Royale this weekend. Happy Feet brought in $42.3 million over Casino’s $40.6 million. Coming in a distant third place was Borat with $14.3 million followed by the Santa Clause 3 ($8.2 M) and Flushed Away ($6.8 M).

Last night I watched Ugly Betty, totally cute, and the OC. I’m going to say, that they way last night’s OC episode was hyped by my favorite TV blogs to be a must see because it was going to be the beginning of a wonderful relationship between…

Ryan and Taylor. Yes, the seeds have been planted. The whole kiss and the lawyer saying he can tell when two people were in love tried to get you to root for Ryan and Taylor (sorry can't think of a fun nickname). At this point, it seems very one sided, hopefully, Ryan will get over Marissa and move on. I love Taylor. I think she’s so much fun. Sometimes annoying, but totally opposite of Summer and Caitlin.

Jimmie Johnson is 63 points ahead of Matt Kenseth his closest competitor. In the Chases sort history (two whole years) the driver going into Homestead with the lead has won the Championship so history is on Johnson’s side. Johnson has to finish 15th and lead the most laps to guarantee his first championship. While Denny Hamlin (-90), Kevin Harvick (-90) and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. (-115) are still mathematically alive, they would need a complete collapse by Johnson and Kenseth to even consider winning the Cup.
There are multiple storylines besides the crowning of Champion to look for this weekend. First there’s the battle for 35th place and a guaranteed spot in the Daytona 500 between Sterling Marlin and Kyle Petty. Today, I got on a train from Secaucus to Penn Station and the power was out, meaning no lights. It was totally creepy, especially when we went into the tunnel. I guess nothing beats Monday when I got rained on…in the train car. There was water all over the seat across the aisle, so I figured I’d be fine in my seat, but all of a sudden a huge waterfall fell on me. I have to admit the only thing I cared about was my ipod, which got hit the hardest. But it’s still working. You’ve got to love NJ transit and the way they give the Bergen line the crappiest trains ever, while the trains that go into Manhattan are the more recent ones.
Today I begin annoying gum chewing rating: 7

Sorry for not posting yesterday, but I had to bring my mom to a doctor’s appointment; nothing serious, but I had to be Nurse Betty yesterday and I didn’t have time to post.
On to today! Did any of you catch Gilmore Girls last night?

I cannot believe Lorelei and Christopher got married in Paris. This show is getting so lame. Although, I know I will continue to watch. I’m annoyed with Rory. I love Alexis Bledel, but the girl cannot do crying scenes. Remember when she cried to Dean in Season 4 about having to drop a class. It was just about as painful as last night…and Lane having twins…really? Although I loved Mrs. Kim’s reaction by first saying they had to move into the Kim house. When Lane stood up for herself, Mrs. Kim moved in with them. Oh and Brian eating dinner with the Korean family was priceless. It’s those moments that keep me coming back. I can’t wait until next week when Luke beats the living crap out of Christopher.
How good was Friday Night Lights? I’m becoming more obsessed with every viewing. I almost want to move to west Texas…almost!

According to DEI VP Richie Gilmore, DEI is not interested in purchasing a piece of Robert Yates Racing even though technical director, Steve Hmiel confirmed the rumor over the weekend. You guys really need to communicate!
Travis Kvapil will return to the Craftsman Truck Series in 2007 driving the #6 Ford Truck for Roush Racing. Kvapil, a former Truck Series Champion, is currently driving the #32 Tide ride for PPI.

I cannot believe Lorelei and Christopher got married in Paris. This show is getting so lame. Although, I know I will continue to watch. I’m annoyed with Rory. I love Alexis Bledel, but the girl cannot do crying scenes. Remember when she cried to Dean in Season 4 about having to drop a class. It was just about as painful as last night…and Lane having twins…really? Although I loved Mrs. Kim’s reaction by first saying they had to move into the Kim house. When Lane stood up for herself, Mrs. Kim moved in with them. Oh and Brian eating dinner with the Korean family was priceless. It’s those moments that keep me coming back. I can’t wait until next week when Luke beats the living crap out of Christopher.

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas. On Saturday I went up to Woodbury Commons and got a few things. The lamps were decorated with wreaths and garlands. Then on Sunday, my mom and I watched Miracle on 34th Street, until the disc froze. I guess we’ll have to get yet another copy of it!
NASCAR Update:
We’re getting down to the wire for the 2006 season. Following the race in Phoenix, only five drives are mathematically still alive, although Matt Kenseth, who’s in 2nd only 63 points out, says that the only way he can win the championship is if Johnson “blows up.” (foxsports.com). Johnson has to finish 12th without leading a lap, 13th and lead one lap, or 15th and lead the most laps, to clinch his first ever championship. Meanwhile, Tony Stewart has locked up the 11th place spot and one million dollar bonus.
On Sunday, Johnson came home second, his fifth straight top two finish. He was the only driver able to contend with race winner Kevin Harvick. But for Harvick, it’s a case of too little, too late as he stands 90 points behind Johnson going into Homestead. The race went 71 laps without a caution, which came out for debris. Kyle Busch was the lone Chase driver not to finish in the top 13. He was involved in a late race wreck when Jamie McMurray slid in front of Tony Stewart, and Stewart spun McMurray around. McMurray hit just about everything before coming to a stop on the track. The only non-chasers in the top ten were Carl Edwards who finished fourth and Kurt Busch who finished eighth.
Shout outs to Jamie McMurray, who prior to the crash was having a great day, steadily in the top 15 all day.

Steve Hmiel, confirmed there have been negotiations between the two teams, but DEI is more interested in purchasing the building, surrounding property and equipment. DEI hopes to one day move a four car operation onto the grounds. Other rumors have Toyota teams bidding to gain the #88’s points to guarantee a spot in the first five races which includes the Daytona 500.

The Giants dominated the first half until the final two minutes when the Bears were able to lead a charge that ended the half with a touchdown and left the Bears trailing the Giants 13-10. The Bears proved to be too strong in the second half, even though it seemed towards the end of the third quarter the Giants were back on track after a Brandon Jacobs touchdown. With a crazy field goal attempt that was returned by the Bears for a touchdown, the Giants were unable to recover. They drop to 6-3 but still lead the NFC by a game over the Philadelphia Eagles.

According to the AP, Mets third base coach, Manny Acta will take over the managerial job for the Washington Nationals after Frank Robinson was let go in September.

The Arizona Cardinals unveiled an 8 foot statue of former player, Pat Tillman. Tillman left the Cardinals in 2002 to join the Army Rangers. He was killed in Afghanistan in 2004 by friendly fire. Tillman was also inducted into the Cardinals “Ring of Honor.”
Boise State running back, Ian Johnson remains in a San Jose Hospital on Monday after suffering a collapsed lung during Boise States victory over San Jose State on Saturday. Originally taken to the hospital after complaining of back pain, Johnson was thought to have injured his spleen. Just because Chris Simms does it, doesn’t mean everyone’s going out and rupturing their spleen. Johnson leads the nation in touchdowns.

Congratulations to the Houston Dynamo who won their first MLS Championship in Houston with a shoot out win over the New England Revolution. The Dynamos have won two other championships when they were the San Jose Earthquakes.

Her debut features “Red High Heels.” I have to admit, I’m kinda stunned. The single’s cute but it’s at 37 on the billboard country singles chart. And did you see her on the CMT Red Carpet Special? She was painful. In all honestly, good for her! She’s had a really tough ride and preserved and here she is. But I just want to meet the people who bought her album!
According to tmz.com, K-Fed may have blown through $50 million of Ms. Spears’ fortune during their two year marriage. Britney’s net worth was about $100 million prior to their marriage and currently stands at about $50 million.
Borat continued to hold the top spot this weekend bringing in $29 million. It was followed by the Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause ($16.9 million) and Flushed Away ($16.7 million). The only new release in the top five was Stranger than Fiction starring Will Farrell, Emma Thompson and Dustin Hoffman which brought in $14.1 million. According to tmz.com, K-Fed may have blown through $50 million of Ms. Spears’ fortune during their two year marriage. Britney’s net worth was about $100 million prior to their marriage and currently stands at about $50 million.
Borat continued to hold the top spot this weekend bringing in $29 million. It was followed by the Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause ($16.9 million) and Flushed Away ($16.7 million). The only new release in the top five was Stranger than Fiction starring Will Farrell, Emma Thompson and Dustin Hoffman which brought in $14.1 million. Saw III rounded out the top five with $6.6 million.
Brody Jenner and The Hills star, Lauren Conrad have split. I can’t wait to see how this all went down on the second season of the Hills!
Congrats to Ellen Pompeo of Grey’s Anatomy and her boyfriend Chris Ivery who got engaged on Friday, Ellen’s 37th birthday. The two grew up minutes away from each other in Boston but did not meet until they both moved to Los Angeles. How adorable.
In another one bites the dust news…Fox has pulled Justice from their schedule. The show starred Alias alum, Victor Garber and Kerr Smith of Dawson’s Creek fame.

Happy Veterans Day!
Last night, Christa, Niki and I went to see Mary Poppins on Broadway. This is the final week of previews as it opens next week. I thought the sets were amazing. They really did a great job on that. I thought the acting was great, but I wouldn’t say the play was great. Although in the end, somewhat like when I watch Wizard of Oz, I realize, I just don’t like the story. I think I checked my watch like four or five times throughout the play. The girl next to me, who I thought was about 10 years old, had a ball. She was clapping up a storm and really enjoyed it. A lot of the kids leaving the theater (oh and there were a lot of kids because I didn’t realize it was teachers convention) had big smiles on their faces.
I think at minimum this play is good for 9/10 year olds. The three kids in front of us fell asleep during the first act and their parents took them home. They looked like they were maybe 6. Bare in mind, the play begins at 8 PM during the week and is 2 hours and 45 minutes with a 15 minute intermission. Also there is a creepy animal scene that might scare little children. Overall if you’re even a moderate fan (which apparently I’m not) of the books or movie you should check it out!

If Denny Hamlin or Dale Earnhardt, Jr. wants any chance at this Championship, they are going to have to “suit up” and take advantage of any errors Jimmie Johnson may have. Junior has won twice at this track, but in the past two races has produced a 40th place and 23rd place finish, while Hamlin has an average finish of 23.5. After last week, Matt Kenseth trails Johnson by a scant 17 points.

Osi Umenyiora, who has missed the last two games, is listed as doubtful and Plaxico Burress, Sam Madison, Carlos Emmons, Sinorice “I’m just not going to play this season” Rice and Justin Tuck are all listed as questionable.

The Houston Chronicle is reporting that second baseman Craig Biggio has signed a contract with the Houston Astros for one year and $5 million. This will be Biggio’s 20th season with the Astros.

The Dallas Mavericks are winless no more. They beat the Phoenix Suns, 119-112 on Thursday! Now they’re just 1-4. I know I know…it’s still early.

In a huge upset, Rutgers beat #3 Louisville 28-25 and remains undefeated. This doesn’t stop Rutgers from being super gross.

Last night I got home kind of late so I took the bus home. At first I was thinking, this isn’t too bad, until we started making stops…constantly. Why can’t people just walk to extra two blocks? No wonder why we’re a nation of obese people. Yikes!

So last night I watched Gilmore Girls and then attempted to watch the OC online through their myspace page. Their would be volume but no movement and then a lot of movement but no volume, it sucked, so instead I watched Friday Night Lights at nbc.com. I was hoping to see last week’s episode but instead they were showing last night’s episode. I think I might have every episode on various tapes stacked up next to my TV but I hadn’t watched an entire episode before. OMG…new TV obsession for sure! It was really great and I totally suggest watching it. I know it’s on the same time as Gilmore Girls, it’s a big conflict for me to, but you can watch the latest episode on nbc.com which is updated every Tuesday. I’m hoping they’ll move FNL to the Studio 60 spot, less conflicts for me!
Braves Update:
Former Braves pitcher, Johnny Sain died at the age of 89. Teamed with Warren Spahn in 1948, they led the Boston Braves to the World Series where they lost to Cleveland.

After yesterday’s election, (I HOPE YOU ALL VOTED!) the Democrats have taken over the majority of seats in the House of Representatives, 227-195 while the battle for the Senate is awaiting the results of two close races in Montana and Virginia. Currently, the Senate is tied 49-49, assuming the two independent Senators in CT and VT are democratically leaning. Democrats also took 20 of 36 gubernatorial races including New York, Ohio and Massachusetts.
It’s not just candidate’s names on the ballots. Each year, states include initiatives that voters can approve or reject. Here are some of my favorites:
-Arizona: Award $1 million to a random voter each general election REJECTED
-Michigan: Scrap affirmative action programs in University admissions and government jobs APPROVED
-Rhode Island: Restore voting rights to felons on probation or parole APPROVED What?
-For all of you who want to possess up to an once of marijuana, cross Colorado, Nevada and South Dakota as places to move to since they all rejected their marijuana initiative.
-While the Federal government can’t get an approval of an increase in the minimum wage, residents in Arizona, Colorado, Missouri, Montana, Nevada and Ohio all approved measures to increase the minimum wage.
Just another reason to head to the polls every November.
Exit polls found most Americans named corruption as their top issue. This was a major blow to the Republicans who have faced scandals involving Tom Delay, Bill Frisk, and Mark Foley in the past year.
Linda Long was bitten by a snake in East London Holiness Church in Kentucky and died. The church is known for practicing “serpent handling.” Apparently, handling reptiles as part of religious services is illegal in the state of Kentucky. Who came up with that law? (AP via yahoo.com)
Not only can people in Beijing only have one kid, now, they can only have one dog. The new law is designed to curb rabies infections in animals.

According to gactv.com, Jennifer Nettles says the title came from a trip to Coney Island. “There were signs hung up everywhere, ‘Have a Hot Dog ’and ‘Free Fireworks on Friday,’ and there was a sign that said ‘Enjoy the Rides.’”
Steve Azar will be on tour with Bob Seger beginning on November 8th. Azar sings one of my favorite songs, “I Don’t Have to be Me (Til Monday).”

Go and VOTE
It’s ELECTION DAY!
So last night was the CMAs. I hope everyone watched them. I’ll be doing a little briefing in a special CMA section further down the blog. Also check out cmt.com for pictures of the event.
NASCAR Update:
Todd Kluever will attempt to make the race in Phoenix driving the #06 car for Roush Racing.
The #10 crew member, Craig Curione that pushed Kevin Harvick after the race in Texas on Sunday was suspended indefinitely from NASCAR and fined $10,000. Finally someone that a $10,000 fine means something to. (via nascar.com)
Giants Update:
Michael Straham will miss 2-4 weeks with a sprained right foot suffered during the Giants win against the Texans on Sunday.

The Florida Gators are the top ranked college basketball team in the nation according to an AP preseason poll. For my mom, the Arizona Wildcats are ranked 10th, my beloved Duke Blue Devils are #12 and for my brother, UCONN is ranked #18.
Champ Car
In don’t drink and drive news…former Champ Car Series Champion, Paul Tracy will miss the season finale in Mexico City with a broken shoulder. Tracy injured his shoulder in an ATV accident. Reports have Tracy driving the ATV while intoxicated, but Tracy has said that claims have gotten out of hand. I wasn’t trying to jump a hill with my ATV I was trying to jump over a hill, goodness!
Hockey
If you’re going to beat the Anaheim Ducks, you’ll have to do it in overtime. The formerly Mighty Ducks have lost only four times this season, once in overtime and three times in sudden death shootouts. The Ducks did, however, beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-2 in OT on Monday.

Three Tennessee football players were arrested over the weekend and charged with disorderly conduct and underage drinking. On Monday, Vols coach, Phillip Fulmer announced suspensions. Starting tailback, Arian Foster will miss the first half of Tennessee’s game against Arkansas on Saturday, fullback David Holbert will miss the entire Arkansas game and safety Antonio Wardlow will miss both the Arkansas game as well as the following Saturday’s game against Vanderbilt. Half a game, huh? Watch out Arian, David and Antonio, because the popo are on your tail!
Katt Williams was arrested on Monday at LAX for allegedly carrying a stolen concealed weapon. Who doesn’t love being arrested and charged on multiple counts? Watch out Katt, because the popo are on your tail! (via tmz.com)

REMINDER: Today is the first day in November, which means it is election day. I got up early and voted, have you? Voting is not only a privilege, it’s a civic duty. People have died just to be able to have the freedoms we enjoy in the United States. The freedoms that people take for granted. By not voting you are allowing others to continually make decisions for yourself. Why not take responsibility and vote?

If you haven’t registered to vote, many states have same day registration. Check out vote-smart.org or growthevote.org for state registration rules and for polling information. You can even check your own state’s website to get more voter information. If it’s too late to register for this election, register today and you’ll be all set for the next election!

This year is a midterm election meaning what’s at stake is the majority in the House of Representatives and the Senate. Currently both chambers of the legislature are controlled by the Republicans. If you’re satisfied with the way the country is going, show your support and vote Republican, but if you’re looking for a change go with the Democrats. (As always, these are generalizations, always check candidate’s platforms to see if they fit your beliefs.) There are 15 Republican seats, 17 Democratic seats and one independent seat up for grabs this election year. The hot races in the Senate are in Connecticut, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Virginia and Washington. There are also Governor Races happening in Alaska, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Nevada, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. Not to mention, state and local representative races and referendums on the ballot this year.
My vote doesn’t count.
Since the 2000 Presidential election, I don’t know how anyone can make that argument. Yes, sometimes people win in a landslide. But other times, it’s mere votes that decide the winner. If you don’t vote, you’ll never count. Remember, elected officials only care about getting re-elected, if you don’t vote they don’t care about you!

Saturday morning, I had to get up super early to help volunteer for the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Rahway’s annual fashion show at the Bridgewater Marriott. This year, thanks to an amazing committee and generous friends and family, they are projected to raise about $67,000. Congratulations!
NASCAR Update:
I must be having some sort of Déjà vu or something, because this weekend’s race ended a lot like last weeks, with Tony Stewart in Victory Lane. Since Mr. Stewart missed the chase in September, he has been on a roll winning three of the past eight races including Kansas, Atlanta and Texas this week. Maybe it’s the new diet. He did look noticeably skinny during an interview, at least his face did. Jeff Burton had another tough week when he blew a tire and hit the wall. Burton finished 38th. Kasey Kahne was the only car in the same zip code as Tony Stewart all day, but blew an engine in the closing laps and finished 33rd. Jimmie Johnson led the way for the Chasers coming in second and in the process picked up the points lead. Kevin Harvick, Kyle Busch, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Jeff Gordon and Denny Hamlin round out the Chasers in the top ten.
Shout outs to Casey Mears who finished seventh. Mears will be heading over to Hendrick Motorsports next season but is looking to get a win for the #42 team before the year is over. His best shot is probably at Homestead where he was basically robbed last year.

Giants Update:
Well, it was looking like an upset as the minutes wound down on Sunday in the Giants home game against the Houston Texans. Luckily, the Giants pulled out another phenomenal fourth quarter performance and were able to earn a 14-10 win over the Texans. The Giants were showing some holes as Osi Umenyiora missed his second straight game and Michael Straham left the game in the second quarter with a foot sprain. I get it, it’s hard to stop doing something that you’ve focused on your entire life, but sometimes, you just have to find a new hobby. There should be some sort of no return clause when you retire!

We’re down to one undefeated team in the NFL, the Indianapolis. They beat the New England Patriots, 27-20 on Sunday Night Football. This is the second consecutive year the Colts are the final team standing undefeated. As they know very, very well, it’s not what you do during the regular season that wins you the Super Bowl…The other undefeated team coming into Saturday’s game, the Chicago Bears, lost to the Miami Dolphins 31-13.

Sunday was the New York City Marathon. Congratulations to Men’s winner, Marilson Gomes Dos Santos of Brazil who broke a ten year string of African winners, Jelena Prokopcuka of Latvia who won for the second straight year and to all those who participated. Goodness knows it would be a miracle for me to run three miles I couldn’t imagine doing 26!

Prosecutors are ready to give their opening statements for the Michael Goodwin trial. Goodwin is accused of killing racing legend, Mickey Thompson and his wife, Trudy 18 years ago. If convicted, Goodwin would face life in prison. Watch out Michael, because the popo are on your tail!

The USS Intrepid, a floating museum, got stuck in mud in the Hudson River on Monday. It was being transported to Bayonne, NJ where it is scheduled to undergo a $60 million makeover.

Last week’s champ, Saw III dropped to fourth bringing in $15.5 million, with the Departed coming in fifth with $8 million. The Departed has moved past the $100 million mark.
The OC will be moving to Wednesday nights at 9 PM/est starting next week. Thank goodness, because my Thursdays were just too crowded and my Wednesdays were totally empty…Fox has also dropped Happy Hour and The Rich List.
The whole gang got together in Beverly Hills for the DVD release of 90120. How excited am I for 90210 on DVD?!

NASCAR Update:
I must be having some sort of Déjà vu or something, because this weekend’s race ended a lot like last weeks, with Tony Stewart in Victory Lane. Since Mr. Stewart missed the chase in September, he has been on a roll winning three of the past eight races including Kansas, Atlanta and Texas this week. Maybe it’s the new diet. He did look noticeably skinny during an interview, at least his face did. Jeff Burton had another tough week when he blew a tire and hit the wall. Burton finished 38th. Kasey Kahne was the only car in the same zip code as Tony Stewart all day, but blew an engine in the closing laps and finished 33rd. Jimmie Johnson led the way for the Chasers coming in second and in the process picked up the points lead. Kevin Harvick, Kyle Busch, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Jeff Gordon and Denny Hamlin round out the Chasers in the top ten.
Shout outs to Casey Mears who finished seventh. Mears will be heading over to Hendrick Motorsports next season but is looking to get a win for the #42 team before the year is over. His best shot is probably at Homestead where he was basically robbed last year.

Giants Update:
Well, it was looking like an upset as the minutes wound down on Sunday in the Giants home game against the Houston Texans. Luckily, the Giants pulled out another phenomenal fourth quarter performance and were able to earn a 14-10 win over the Texans. The Giants were showing some holes as Osi Umenyiora missed his second straight game and Michael Straham left the game in the second quarter with a foot sprain.
